Title: Modesto Bee Article: Stem cell research
Article

As Reported in Modesto Bee:

Stem cell research is very much in the news, but until recently it hasn't been local news. The University of California at Merced changes that. As a research university, UC Merced is very much involved with stem cells. It has gotten first-round approval to establish a Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry, which will make the tiny devices that will allow researchers to examine single cells. And a professor, Jennifer O. Manilay, has received a $1.58 million grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the agency created by voters' approval of Proposition 71 in 2004.
