Submission Process

Samples may be submitted in the following formats:

  • 96-well plate (Thermo-fast 96-Detection Plate; Fisher Scientific; catalog # AB-1400-L)
  • 0.2 mL thin walled 8-tube PCR strip
  • 0.2 mL PCR tube

- Please make sure to appropriately seal your samples.
- A clean template is critical for successful sequencing.  The ABI 3130XL is sensitive to impurities in the template preparation.  Make sure your template DOES NOT contain residual salts, RNA, ethanol, phenol, chloroform, detergents, and/or TE.  Excess PCR primers, enzymes, dNTPs, and buffer components are contaminants that also lead to a poor quality template.  Appropriate care during sample purification will lead to better results.
- Please make sure to determine the DNA quality:

  • Agarose gel electrophoresis - Purified DNA should run as a single band
  • Spectrophotometry - The A260/A280 ratio should be 1.7 to 1.9.  Contamination (protein and/or organic chemicals) is usually indicated by smaller ratios.

Please fill out the tube online submission form or the 96-well plate online submission form. If submitting a 96-well plate, please make sure to arrange the samples by columns (A1-H1, A2- H2, A3-H3, etc.), NOT by rows (A1-A12, B1-B12, C1-C12, etc.).   The forms can be found at the following address/here.

Samples may be submitted by taking them and a copy of a completed sequencing request form to:
4225 N. Hospital Rd.
Building 1201, Lab 900 North
Atwater, CA
Place them in the small white refrigerator labeled “Sample Drop Off”. Please make sure that tubes and/or plates are labeled properly.

If mailing samples, ship overnight or second day air and package appropriately with no ice. Please make sure your tubes and/or plates are tightly sealed and placed in a secondary container to prevent any damage from shipping accidents such as crushing of tube(s) and/or plate(s). Please be sure to include a copy of the completed sample request form with each order and label your tubes.  Mail samples to:
